To Matlab or not to Matlab?

A pragmatic approach could to say: Let's consider compatibility with
version n.m of Matlab (may be 4.2 or other) a good thing.

Basically patches, that improve Matlab n.m compatibility will be
applied, if they are good enough.
Patches that improve compatibility with any other version are considered
to be much less important.
