I looked briefly on the web site since you directed comments there but
couldn't find a place to enter comments.  At any rate I was thinking
that it could be useful to provide debug_entering_function and
debug_leaving_function in a manner similar to what is recommended in
chapter 12 of "Managing Projects with GNU Make".  I implement my own
version differently than the book but I think the idea is good for
tracking complicated function call interactions.
