I'm stuck in Windows-land these days, but when I was using terminal emacs a lot 
on my Ubuntu machine (gnome terminal I think, but I believe this is common: )
A) Highlight URL or whatever in firefox, chrome, etc.
B) copy or kill using C-c or C-x
C) paste into term at cursor: Shift-C-v
