IIRC it starts an inferior haskell process, but without displaying it
(you can probably see it with C-x b *haskell* RET or something like
that).
But I stopped maintaing Hasekkl a little while ago, so I recommend you
get in touch with the new maintainer at:
http://projects.haskell.org/haskellmode-emacs/
