No, not really.

You could however 'draw' instead of 'write'.

M-x picture-mode RET
C-c .

Then type your text.

RET won't do what you want, you'll have to move back to the next
column with the cursor,  and the file is stored line by line instead
of column by column.  But visually it will do what you want.
