widget examples like in gnuplot-mode

Hi,

    I am looking for some simple widget examples. I found a
    lot with the gnuplot-mode, but unfortunately this is a
    bit too complex to understand (at least for me).
    Ideally, I would like to set some options using drop
    down menues (menu-choice) and text fields (editable fiels), which are 
passed to an
    external 'call-process-shell-command' by a pressed button.
    Would be nice, if anyone could give some hints!
