It's not a problem that you copied the guile-installation dir to your
desktop (after the installation is complete, you can delete this
directory). That it takes so long is not so strange either on a 133 MHz
machine, the usual advice for this is to 'take a cup of coffee' or 'read
a book'. But when make is finished you have to do 'make install' which
copies the binaries and hopefully manpage to the right place
in the system (e.g. /usr/local/). To do this you must have root
permissions, so you first have to become root (using the 'su' command) and
then do the 'make install'.
