Hello, John McDonnell here, with your latest issue of Really Useful Sites for
International Trade Professionals. In this issue I have a site that's your
gateway to trade with Israel. In addition, I found a site that will show you
which countries are the most corrupt and open to bribery, so you can avoid
them. If you need official statistics from any country in the world, I have a
site that will open the door for you. Finally, allergy sufferers all over the
world will get relief at a site called the Allergy Prevention Center. As usual,
these are all sites worth bookmarking.
If you'd like more information about international trade, go to FITA's
International Trade/ Import-Export Portal <http://fita.org> ( http://fita.org )
at fita.org, an excellent source for trade leads, news, events, and a link
library of 5,000 sites related to international trade.

OUR FEATURED COUNTRY SITE -- ISRAEL
http://strategis.ic.gc.ca/SSG/dc91979e.html

Israel is a place I've always wanted to visit. I like history, and you can't
walk outside in Israel without bumping into a historical site. But there's a
lot going on in the present, too. Israel is the 20th largest export market for
the United States with approximately $19 billion in two-way trade projected for
2003. Israel also ranks as the United States' largest trading partner in the
Middle East, just surpassing Saudi Arabia. If you'd like to learn more about
exporting to Israel, go to the Strategis page on Israel Business
<http://strategis.ic.gc.ca/SSG/dc91979e.html> (
http://strategis.ic.gc.ca/SSG/dc91979e.html ). This site, provided by the
Canadian government, has loads of information about how to export to Israel,
including the legal background, Israeli government policies, investment tips,
tax breaks, and much more.
For a good discussion of the business climate in Israel, with specific
information about the energy market, go to the Department of Energy's Country
Analysis Brief on Israel <http://www.eia.doe.gov/emeu/cabs/israel.html>(
http://www.eia.doe.gov/emeu/cabs/israel.html ).

There are more useful links to Israel at the FITA site. Go to
http://fita.org/webindex/ <http://fita.org/webindex/index.html>, click on
Regional Resources and Multi-Lateral Trading Areas in the left column, then
scroll down to "Middle East/Africa" and click on Israel in the drop-down box.
Or simply type "Israel" in the search box at http://www.fita.org
<http://fita.org>.

BRIBE PAYER'S INDEX
http://www.transparency.org

Bribery is, unfortunately, an accepted way to do business in some countries. If
you're in international trade, it's critical that you know which countries
operate by the greased palm system, if only to avoid them. Transparency
International <http://www.transparency.org> ( http://www.transparency.org ), an
organization that's part of the global anti-corruption movement, actually has
rated which countries are the worst for bribery. Just click on "Bribe Payer's
Index" in the dropdown box on the home page, and you'll go to a page where you
can download the ratings. You'll also find a Global Corruption Report,
information on combatting corruption, and lots more useful information.
