A particular uncommon problem in Free Software ;)

Still, for the benefit for whoever reads this, I think applying the
patches would be a good thing(tm), as it at least will not stop people
dead trying to do a fresh build - with the "recipe" checkout that I did,
the deprecated constructs are treated as fatal errors.

To be honest, the failing build almost stopped me from looking into this
at all - and every one losing interest in this way is likely one too
many...
