I didn't remove the glocs to gain performance. I sacrified
performance for what I think is a much cleaner use of the tag system.
This will hopefully make hacking on Guile easier in the future,
allowing for other changes that will increase performance again (like
a compiler framework that can write pre-memoized code to disk).
