Because IPv4 is much more prevalent at present, what means less unnecessary traffic and a slightly better performance on most of the cases. We can always change the default in the future (when IPv6 is more prevalent) as such "preference" is just an optimization. Also, I should soon have a patch to allow the user to configure this lookup behavior if he/she wants it.
