Guys,
To close this thread, I was barking up the wrong tree thinking that this
was a grub problem. Turns out there was a conflict between my NVidia
8800GT PCIe card and a 3ware 965SE PCIe RAID card. Once I move the
NVidia to a different slot, the box booted normally.
