There is support for GPT in GRUB 2.  This is the partitioning scheme
used by EFI.  The EFI standard seems to be open and there is even a
reference implementation for the PC you can download from the Intel
website.

I really want to implement EFI support for GRUB 2.  But I do not have
a box that natively supports EFI.  And I couldn't get the Intel
implementation to work properly (readying stuff from fat).  If you can
get the Intel implementation to load ELILO, I am certainly willing to
look into this when I have the time.
