Forcing the speed is easy:

stty speed 9600 raw < /dev/ttyS0
gpsd -n /dev/ttyS0

If firce your protocol, then you can recompile gpsd for jsut that one
protocol.  Very few people need to do that, but the Trimble protocl is
so badly conceived that it is sometime needed for those.
