The reason I believe it to be a runtime issue is that the list of subclasses is generated by querying the runtime.    I will start up a NetBSD instance to investigate this.

Hi,

On NetBSD with gcc 4.5.4 x86-32 and its default runtime, when inspecting a NSTextField I cannot change its type. Among the possible classes, only one is shown, the one of the textfield. If freshly instantiated, only NSTextField. No password, or search fields.
On OpenBSD gcc 4.2.1 i386-32bit, I have the same problem. On linux I do not experience this, with gcc, but I don't remember the exact compiler version, I need to check

This works on FreeBSD with clang and gs's libobjc2

Gregory suggests this is a runtime problem.

Anybody else can reproduce this problem? Report your gcc version perhaps.
