To all list members:

I have updated the home page descriptive material for gnuspeech (http://www.gnu.org/software/gnuspeech/). I apologise for the low level of activity over the last two years.

This is a major update that clarifies a number of issues, including access to the current pre-release software. It documents the current state of the project which had become seriously out-of-date (this a a precursor to a coming official release). It also gives information that will be helpful to both users and developers understand the extensive capabilites of gnuspeech, and what still needs to be ported to allow the full functionality of gnuspeech to be implemented. At present, real-time text-to-speech may be generated from plain text, using the articulatory synthesis model, including as a "Service" on OS X version, for qhich a .dmg file is available. Much of the software needed to create new databases for new languages has been ported, and many displays are fully functional (e.g. those produced by the specialised database editor Monet). The Synthesizer app that allows GUI access to the behaviour and output of the underlying acoustic Tube Resonance Model or TRM is usefully functional, though missing some displays, and in need of clean-up.

I recommend those interested to visit the gnuspeech home page, noted above. I believe you will find it very informative.

Anyone interested in helping with the work to complete this project, especially GNU/Linux gurus, are strongly encourage to get involved. Please! Feel free to write to me directly.

Do write back to this list with any comments, suggestions, corrections, or whatever.

Many thanks, and "Happy Hacking".

All good wishes.
