I'll add, for the record, that I've seen similar sorts of
unreproducable results when playing many games in the same
process.  More often (but still rarely), I've seen GNU Go 
simply make loads of terrible move, yet when quizzing it later, 
it does fine.  I think that there is some state cleanup that's 
not happenning when new games are started in the same process.
