what about a section for free software running GSM air interfaces?
The list is the other way around: hardware capable of running free software, e.g. GSM air interfaces running free software.
OpenBTS is awesome for that http://openbts.sourceforge.net also distributed by GNU Radio, one can use it to setup an USRP to run a GSM network, we had one at the HAR camping and surely there will be one at the next CCCamp... IMHO it's even better than an open source phone, considering the real economic impact this has and how it can liberate communities from telecom monopolies, working out of the box with all existing devices.
Looks very cool. Does such a USRP thingy need any non-free software (incl. firmware) to run?
