i'm cc-ing Casey who has an SSL implementation in Java.  he may be able 
to provide a more accurate answer to this.

if you checkout the project from CVS you should see implementations of 
SASL (Simple Authentication and Security Layer) mechanisms, including 
an SRP-6 based mechanism which gives you replay-detection, integrity 
protection and confidentiality protection.
