I think this goes back to seeing "inventory" as a somewhat separate
layer from the archiving functionality in tla.  In fact, from time to
time, the notion to split the inventory functionality out of tla and
into a separate package seems to come up on this list.

It appears obviously useful to me (e.g. for scripting purposes) that
"tla inventory --junk" can return a different set of files than "tla
inventory --backups".
