If I may succintly summarise:

What sticks in some people's craw is that the GFDL seems to allow original
authors to put _any_ political speech in the invariant section (e.g. "The
Jews are controlling the world from a secret base in the North Pole and
everyone who contributes to this document agrees with this statement").
Sufficiently obnoxious political speech, which derivative authors are not
allowed to remove, could compromise the freeness of the work.

The same problem does not arise with the GPL because if you have agreed to
the terms of the GPL, you cannot consistently object to having to inform
your users of their rights.
