Does "more context-specific" mean now you have three problems?  :-)

I'm afraid this is just a hard problem unless you want to teach arch
to parse Makefiles.  Hmm ... how about telling arch (%.plt=%.tex) (in
Makefile subst syntax) or ${NAME%.plt}.tex (Bourne sh), etc?
