I have no idea of what protocol it speaks, but if you need to issue
some command, for example to choose which of the 8 modules you are
going to use, gnokii supports a config option to execute a custom
script that you need to write, see Docs/sample/ppp/ for an example,
you then reference it with in gnokiirc with the keywords
connect_script and disconnect_script

the sample gnokiirc has 2 lines commented out:
#connect_script = /absolute/path/to/gnokii/Docs/sample/cimd-connect
#disconnect_script =
