Using gnokii source from http://git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/gnokii.git/snapshot/gnokii-master.tar.gz today 5 March at 16:48 UTC, that error has gone but the Note is not downloaded. Here's the screen scrape:

The ToDo note could not be read: The given location is empty.

After that no new file was found in the current directory. There is a single note on the phone, visible via Menu -> Organiser -> Notes.

BTW the "day job" work pressure has eased and I've just revived work on the awk script to process an Orage export .ics file, to re-write recurring VEVENTs as multiple single VEVENTs.
