Thanks to you and to Daniele Forsi.
I attach the debug file from reading a single SMS with one extended
char (e with grave accent).
Comments:
(1) if I download a single file without accent the command 'file'
outputs "ASCII text".
(2) if I download a single file with accents the detected encoding is ISO-8859

So from a practical point of view it's all right: I convert the file
to UTF8 and it's OK. But it would be nice to get the file already UTF8
encoded.
