I'm using gnapplet on my Symbian phone, a 6670, over bluetooth.  This
works great and is much more convenient than a cable.  If you want to
give this a go, google for some instructions on setting up Bluez (it's
much easier to use the binary packages that come with your distribution
than build from source, but you might have to build a new kernel), and
buy a cheap bluetooth dongle (£20 or so).

I used to live in Cambridge - you could either go to Maplin and ask for
'a bluetooth usb dongle',  (in which case there's a 20% chance it might
not have drivers in the Linux kernel) or order one that you know works
off eBuyer or whatever.  My DBT-120 works like a charm.
