sorry for the very delayed reply but i forgot to mention one interesting observation: we did not have a problem issuing this command using gnokii 0.3.5 on a trustix linux machine. when we tried using versions 4 and above, we were already encountering problems interfacing with the cellphone when issuing the 'gnokii --identify' command.... and oh, i forgot to mention that the config was basically the same.

i hope you can enlighten me on this one. tnx!

Am I alone in finding this error message difficult to understand?

I would suggest something like
"Cannot connect to phone" if that is what it means,


Timeout means didn't receive any anwer from the phone. I don't think it is
confusing. And it is exactly what we know.


and also perhaps some suggestion about what one might do?
"Check your .gnokiirc file" or something like that.


But there's no rule here.
