Ok, making progress with smsd... thanks for the fix, Bozo. smsd is now
reading sms from my AT phone (ericsson) and populating mysql.

however -- it only seems to do this when i start smsd. New messages
recieved after starting smsd never make it into the database. If i
recieve a message while smsd is running, the stop and restart smsd, it
will appear in the database.

Perhaps this is a bug? Or maybe the polling interval should be a command
line option?

Thanks again for supporting the AT driver, I do appreciate it. Hope
this helps identify some bugs.

cheers,

-Todd

Jan, have you hot any idea? Currently the GetSMSStatus in the AT
driver reports all of the sms messages as read (unread = 0, changed = 0,
folders_count = 0, number = <num of messages>).

Bozo

I couldn't find any AT command to show the number of unread messages. The
only way I know is to use AT+CMGL command and it will list unread
messages by default.
I think SMSD won't work with current implementation...

Read LGPL. Once you release first copy of lgpled gammu,
anyone is free to redistribute it LGPLed, which is probably
not what you want.

I made short debuging with these results:
I use Siemens MC35i terminal.
The CPMS command returned:
at+CPMS="SM"
+CPMS: 0,10,0,35,0,35

If I used at+CPMS="MT" I got
+CPMS: 0,35,0,35,0,35

By default phone stores messages to MT. In your patch you check only number
of messages in SM so it doesn't work with this phone.
I changed your patch to check MT and in smsd/lowlevel.c I changed memory
type to GN_MT_MT and I removed checking for unread message.

           phoneMonitor.working = TRUE;
           RefreshSMS (SMSStatus.number);

Now smsd starts RefreshSMS and it is able to download messages from
phone.

I also noticed another strange behaviour. If I used gn_sms_get (AT+CMGR) on
empty or invalid location it returns error 4 (GN_ERR_INTERNALERROR).
I was expecting GN_ERR_EMPTYLOCATION and GN_ERR_INVALIDLOCATION instead it.
But it hasn't relation to smsd function.

I think we should create smarter GetSMSStatus and check for all memory types
in smsd or we should let user to specify prefered sms storage as command
line
parameter in smsd.

In future we should route sms's directly to TE (AT+CNMI command). I think
this is much better solution.

You can use gnokii --getsms (e.g. gnokii --getsms SM 1).

gnokii --sendsms phone_number < file.txt

Hi.

I'm working on new version of smsd. In this version I want support not
only text messages, but also EMS, ringtones etc.
With libgnokii I'm able to send different kind of messages but I have
trouble with messages receiving.
It seems that gnokii is not able to identify incoming EMS message.
I use Siemens MC35 terminal for may work. When I send EMS melody from gnokii
or SE t68i, gnokii shows me this:
GNOKII Version 0.5.7
2. Inbox Message (read)
Date/time: 21/12/2003 14:28:54 +1000
Sender: +420XXXXXXXXX Msg Center: +420602909909
Unknown

udh.udh[0].type is 15
user_data[0].type is GN_SMS_DATA_None
user_data[0].length is 0

The gsmsmsstore program from gsmlib shows this result:
index #1
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Message type: SMS-DELIVER
SC address: '420602909909'
More messages to send: 1
Reply path: 0
User data header indicator: 1

Originating address: '420XXXXXXXXX'
Protocol identifier: 0x0
Data coding scheme: default alphabet

User data: ''
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

How can I identify and download other than text messages from phone?

What is proper use of user_data[0].type? I was expecting when I download
text message from phone then user_data[0].type will be GN_SMS_DATA_Text and
and user_data[0].length will be set to length of message text.
But user_data[0].type is GN_SMS_DATA_None and length is 0.

At the moment gnokii supports LDIF format output as well as vCard fromat.
LDIF is compatible with Mozilla AddressBook.

There are also RPMs and Debs at ftp://ftp.pl.gnokii.org/pub/gnokii/
Not tested, so be careful.
