So,
i tryed this and got the following,

echo 'This is the message' | gnokii --sendsms 086XXXXXXX
Exception in thread "main" java.io.IOException: CreateProcess: echo 'This
is the message' | gnokii --sendsms 0868722386
error=2

Ok, i presume this is more of a java sytax error?
Is the idea of the echo command that it will pass in the 'This is the
message' string into the gnokii --sendsms process?

thanks
ross
