I'm not sure if there are two mutually exclusive options here.
Linux-libre Project basically consists of a deblob script and mirrors
deblobbed versions of Linux releases (vaguely similar to what
gNewSense does with Ubuntu repositories).

One can probably just Debian MIPSEL kernel packs and deblob them
instead of the vanilla kernel.org ones. However, the script should be
carefully watched since I don't know how the Debian team modifies the
kernel.
