We will solve it as soon as possible.

Hi Zhangfx.

What we want is to finally get the endorsement of FSF to gNewSense-MIPS
on the Yeelong. They have informed this will be done, but is needed to
get the SMI working good (better than now)

The GPL issue, as far as I have search and read, is solved. So there is
no Non-Compatible GPL Software or Licenses on this. This is very good,
by the way !

The person in charge to manage the FSF endorsement is Brett Smith
<address@hidden> (I am sending a CC to him, I do not know if he is
suscribed tho this list) and is asking for this new version you told
about, because old one appears to have problems in rebooting and poor
behaviour: He says (and I agree) "graphics performance is unacceptable
for common netbook tasks". I am pretty shure this new version may be the
solution if we put our efforts together, making Yeelong not only the
better hardware we have to live in freedom: we will make the better
Software posible to make it shine!

So, Zhangfx, how you think we can get (and how we can help to get) this
driver working properly, as good as the FSF ask, to make possible this
endorsement?

What do you need exactly? A GPLed silicon motion driver? An accelerated
smi driver?

For GPL issue, I think SMI/lemote has given the permission. For
acceleration, we have old working version. Recently we will also look at
porting to new version.

Excuse my english, ussualy contain errors, I think, however, it will be
enough to express myself:

Let me introduce first: I am working in a project in Venezuela, which
have the goal of manufacturing, developing and mantaining the Lemote
Yeelong in our continent. For this we have contacted FSF asking the
complete endorsenment of gNewSense in this hardware. They answered the
main issue to solve before, is one concerning the SiliconMotion driver
(video). So I started to search for experts here in Venezuela to
research and solve this.

Maybe we need to recompile the Silicon Motion Driver to the gNewSense
Lemote Yeelong. There is an existing effort in this [1] but the page is
in a very difficult language and the package appears to crash or to not
work properly in some reeboot situation.

Any help, advice or information will be helpful.

Thanks. I hope you can help us constructing a free world :-)
