Thanks for checking that out. Unfortunately, it seems that is not the 
case for hardy. The new guy (Nathan) started with version 2.8, while 
hardy still has version 2.7. Also, the date of the source package 
(cracklib2_2.7.orig.tar.gz) in the Ubuntu repos is 2004-05-11, predating 
that email discussion and formal license change statement.

The package was removed a few weeks ago because of a policy change 
regarding the Artistic license [1]. This is useful information, though, 
which we will take into account with a next major release.
