[gmediaserver-devel] question about installing and running gmediaserver

Subject: [gmediaserver-devel] question about installing and running gmediaserver

Hello,

I have downloaded and installed gmediaserver, using the package, on my Ubuntu machine. I am new to linux and have difficulty in understanding what 'normal GNU behavior' is. Therefore, I probably make mistakes while trying to use the program.

Gmediaserver has installed itself in directory usr/bin. When, from  that directory, using the command line editor, I type ./gmediaserver --friendly-name=Ubuntu and give enter, I get the error message 'directory argument missing'. I see no other syntax specifications in the on-line manual. And the error message is as clear to me, as '?' was, in the MS-DOS 3.21 days... Even from the source code, I can not derive the nature of the error that I made (I used to program COBOL, not C).

Is there any manual which is written for non-programming users, which I could use for using the program. Because I foresee that I will want to be able to see my server with my 1st generation Streamium device, and would like to add music to a 'library'or so, or at least not add all my music files to the server's playlist. Or do I need another program to function as a GUI?

Thanks from an Ubuntu/Linux/gmediaserver newbie.

Richard
