On running sudo apt-get autoclean 
i am getting a message "E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem."

Try to reinstall stardict again maybe it overwrote config files in an
inconsistent state.
Do
#apt-get autoclean
#apt-get install stardict
