Hello,
A lot of us want to use Google Talk and GNU/Linux at the same time. An
excellent option in the form of messaging client which exists is Gaim or Pidgin
but unfortunately the Jabber protocol they use to connect uses the 5222 and 5223
port(for SSL) which are blocked in the proxy servers through which we access the
internet.
I was told by Ramakant that a web interface exists to Google Talk and I found it
here and this is the link
http://www.google.com/talk/
And check out the Google Talk Gadget
If someone is interested one can use it from a GNU/Linux system and at the same
time request the Computer Centre admins to open the ports ie 5222. That will
help us to use our favourite IM clients. If you want to use IM clients with
GNU/Linux please go and request the folks there to open the port. In the
meanwhile you can use Google Talk Gadget.
Regards,
Vivek
