The reinitialization is done there with a Galerkin method. This could work well
but may have some boundary effects.
I think it is better to use the Galerkin caracteristic method. See for instance
the reinitialization done
in matlab examples with convect method
interface/tests/matlab/demo_structural_optimization.m
This could of course be used also in C++ codes.

I found a very useful subroutine in delaminated_crack.cc which is used to
reinitialize the level set back to signed distance function. It seems that
there are 4 versions of the solver and could anyone tell me where I can find
the reference of those methods? Thanks.
