Thank you very much for the help.

I updated to MATLAB 2010b (on 64bit unbuntu 10.10) and still encountered the same error. Enclosed please find the output of my installation.

I also noticed that the installation of the matlab toolbox "getfem_toolbox" failed.
/usr/bin/install -c -m 644 -t /home/wenzw/software/matlab2010b/toolbox/getfem_toolbox/private/ ./private/*.m
/usr/bin/install: accessing `/home/wenzw/software/matlab2010b/toolbox/getfem_toolbox/private/': No such file or directory

This problem can be easily resolved by make a directory "private" under "getfem_toolbox" manually.
