[Freetype] Problem with micross.ttf

Hello,

I have a web based application called MapServer
(http://mapserver.gis.umn.edu). I'm using 4.4-beta2.

This application makes use of GD (Latest 2.0.x) and FreeType 2.1.x (2.1.9 in
my case, though I tried 2.1.4 as well).

I seem to have a rendering problem specific to the micross font:

 <<mapserv3.gif>>

Note the "Thunder" and how it looks different than other text on the image.
It should actually say "Thunder Bay". I can reproduce this in a variety of
situations.

After discussing this with MapServer's lead developper, he seems to be of
the opinion that the problem seems to be that FreeType is choking on the
white space character. My own investigations come to the same conclusion.

I've tried versions 1.10 and 1.41 of the font, the problem remains.

With older versions of the application (3.6.6), using GD 1.8.4 and FreeType
1.x (1.3.1 I think) there was no problem.

Can anybody shed some light on this issue? Is the font "bad" somehow? Is it
related to the fact that it's an OpenType? Could it be GD?

Or am I out of luck and will need to change the font I use?

I must admit, I don't know much about font internals ...

Any help or insight would be much appreciated!

Thanks,
