BTW, please change LIBS in `tests/Makefile' to
  LIBS = -lpng -dld
If I use the original value with more (unnecessary) libraries, I get
nasty segfaults:

... this sounds better :-) It's quite important IMHO to find a soluion
that works universally in all browsers (not counting for browser
