most applications that use FreeType just put a small notice in the "Help -> About" dialog, or in the "Credits" section.
to me, that is clearly part of the documentation for the product and complies with the license. some other put a note
in a splash screem, that's OK too. some other distribute a README.TXT file that comes with the program that includes
also a mention. still OK.

I don't see why your users couldn't do the same thing. if you really think that would be an incredible burden to them, dont use FreeType, that's all.
the least you could do is simply have them redistribute a README.TXT file with the DLL. I assume you want also your own copyright/license disclaimer in this
file anyway.

Hello,

i want use FreeType2 for a commercial 3D engine i worked on the last years, the users must eventually redistribute a DLL which contains a compilation of the engine and the FreeType2 library.

Now each user becomes a licensee of FreeType2 and must properly credit the use of the software. However, i do not want them run intro licensing issues and thought of crediting FreeType2 in a splash screen at startup of any application using the engine. Most BSD style licences allow crediting in "the documentation and/or other materials provided with the distribution" but FreeType2 requires it in the documentation. So this may be in the sense of the license but may not be legal.

Im a bit confused and about to remove FreeType because i cannot ensure that every sublicensee properly uses the software.
But before i do that i at least want to ask you if there is a way.

Best regards
Bastian
