Any 2nd order bezier curve (TTF curve) can be expressed exactly as a 3rd order bezier curve. However since control points need to be integral there will probably be some slight inaccuracy.

Problem is that TrueType outlines have *too many* points, and this *decreases* font quality in most cases.
Ikarus curves have far more files than truetype curves. I don't know if that is a feature of hermite curves, or of Karov's stated desire to be independent of the interpolation method between points.
