Modern OpenType fonts usually don't have a `kern' table but uses the
`GPOS' table to implement kerning, allowing e.g. horizontal and
vertical movement simultaneously, depending on the context.

Kerning doesn't influence the resolution.

The default resolution of X is 75x75 dpi (you can use the `xdpyinfo'
command to get the exact values), but it can be adjusted using the
`-dpi' switch while starting the X server.

I can't help here since I don't know anything about SVG -- you should
wait until David is online again (he has already written a SVG
rendering engine)...
