I think that metrics auto hinting for CJK glyphs is not a
good idea.  If the font really wants that, it has to provide such data
explicitly (using a SFNT table).

BTW, having some kerning between CJK glyphs is language dependent.  In
Japanese, it is more common to do that than in Chinese -- what about
an auto-kerning module? :-)

The question is how to automatically detect that metrics shouldn't be
modified?  Without higher-level data (e.g. OS/2 bits + CMaps, glyph
names) it seems impossible to me.
