Internally, the error is likely coming from an attempt to open the PID
file. I should add extra debugging to make this clear.
The official location of the PID file is
typically /var/run/ipmiseld.pid. Are you running as root? Perhaps this
is the reason it doesn't start.
If you are running out of a build directory, perhaps the location is
"/usr/local/var/run/ipmiseld.pid". Perhaps the path does not yet exist?

Under foreground or test-run, the output is to stdout, not syslog. So
we need to figure out the bug above. I can clarify this in the manpage.
