This is a pretty serious problem.  I haven't encountered it because I
have erc-log-insert-log-on-open set to nil.  Unfortunately, I don't have
time to fix it at the moment.  If someone is willing to investigate the
problem and provide a patch (being sure to explain what caused the bug),
that would be the quickest way to get it fixed.
