   Why is that?

Because, when default-directory is ~/, in my case /home/teirllm, and I
have the line

/home/teirllm/compdir

in the *Locate* buffer, then I get (yanked from *Messages*):

dired-insert-subdir: Attempt to insert a non-directory:
/home/teirllm/home/teirllm/compdir/

Of course, /home/teirllm/home/teirllm/compdir/ is not a directory,
home/teirllm/compdir/ is.

FWIW, with yesterday's CVS, the MS-DOS port doesn't care about "/"
being the default-directory in the *Locate* buffer, and `i' works. I
cannot test a recent Windows port where I type this, though.

Do you mean, it works even if "/" is the default directory, that is,
you do not see the original reported problem? Or do you mean that
everything works fine with some other default-directory?

Sincerely,

Luc.
