Frame shrinks while mouse moves over toolbar (GTK).

Dear people,

If I move the mouse pointer over a toolbar button, and then move to an
adjacent toolbar button the Emacs frame shrinks by 1 line.  (Note that
I do not press any mouse buttons, I just move the mouse pointer.)
When I repeat this, the frame is eventually reduced to nothing more
than the menubar and the toolbar.
