Given low setup costs, that would be OK.

But before you proceed with this, this interface function may not
actually be what's needed at all.  Sorry for the confusion.  What was
attractive about it was that it would provide cacheable information when
strings have to be filled in several different ways.

Now that I've made shr cache more rendering information, this may not be
such a major win, anyway.  Let me do some more benchmarking and think
about this yet another time before you start implementing.  :-)
