Most GNU manuals are designed to be introductions _and_ references.
They are written so you can read them straight through to learn about
a topic if you know nothing about it.

The Emacs Lisp Reference Manual is an exception -- because we have
a separate introduction for that topic, so the reference manual does not
need to try to serve the same purpose.
