Commits to branch and trunk

The fact that we switched to git changes nothing wrt where to commit
changes: if the changes are needed on the release branch, please
commit them there, not to master.

A case in point is the changes to .gitignore you, Lars, just committed
to master: they should have been committed to the branch instead (I
backported them, and then improved on them).
